Data Release Policy and Embargo Period Structure

Marine Microbial Eukaryote Transcriptome Sequencing Project
October 19, 2010

1. Exclusive use of data by researchers who submit samples: 0–6 months

NCGR will provide transcriptome assemblies and annotations to CAMERA within 15 days of the completion of annotation. CAMERA will then provide researchers with these assemblies and annotations within a few days. Upon notification that transcriptome datasets are available for download from CAMERA, researchers will have exclusive access to and use of their data for 6 months. CAMERA will manage this exclusive embargo. Sequence reads will be available to the researcher from NCGR via FTP during this period.

2. Unrestricted public access to data: beyond 6 months

Transcriptome sequences, assemblies, annotations and associated metadata will be made publicly available for unrestricted use 6 months after the researcher who originally submitted a sample receives the data files. CAMERA will allow universal access to assemblies, annotations and associated metadata via its website and NCGR will submit sequence reads to the NCBI SRA archive six months after completion of annotation.

Following the unrestricted public release of transcriptome files and associated metadata, interested parties are strongly encouraged to contact the researcher whose sample was sequenced with any questions about use of the data and to discuss potential collaborative analyses.

There will be no exceptions to this policy.

Please contact Dr. Jon Kaye at +1 650-213-3122 or with any questions.
